Crispy Kix Treats

1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup sugar
1 cup peanut butter
4 cups Kix cereal

Bring sugar and corn syrup to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in peanut butter. Pour over cereal and stir to coat. Press into 13x9 inch pan. Cut into squares.

Mom: K. Trevon, do you need to go, too?
Trevon: No. I already went.
Mom: ...When?
Trevon: Just now.

Matt: You can't have candy until your food is gone.

William: Casey, eat my food.

William: I want candy.

Lindsey: Nope. No candy.

William: Can I have a candy cane?

Lindsey: Nope. You can't have candy.

William: Can I have a cane?

Matt: William, say, 'Thanks, Dad. You're the best.'

William: Saints, Dad. Awe you da best?

Lindsey: Wow. What are you doing?

William: I'm brushing my teeth.

Lindsey: I bet you've been doing that for a long time.

William: Yeah. Mom, did you come see me? Did you find me eating toothpaste? I mean... brushing my teeth?

William: (overheard) I'm gonna eat you. You gotta get on my spoon. There! I ate you!

Lindsey: Should we listen to some music?

William: Should we have a dance party?

Lindsey: Let's have mac n cheese for lunch.

William: Yeah. I want it cold.

Lindsey: We have to cook it.

William: No!

Lindsey: Do you want to see what it's like if you don't cook it? It's not good. (Hands William a raw noodle.) See? It's not good, is it?

William: Can I have another one?

Let's Get Basic

Butter
Softened butter is the butter left on the counter (perfect for toast). Softened butter is the best for cookies or - haha - tart crusts.
Melted butter is the microwaved or stovetopped kind. It's better for sauces or bread doughs.
Make sure to read the recipes!

Trick!
When the recipe (usually for pastries or biscuits) says to use a fork, fingers, or pastry cutter to cut the cold (refrigerated or frozen) butter into the flour, use a cheese grater! Saves tons of effort!

Mixing
Mix: Use a hand mixer or some sweet arm muscles.
Toss: Use hands and mix lightly (as in a salad).
Blend: Use a blender.
Beat: Use an egg beater or the whisk utensil on a hand mixer.
Fold: Use a spoon (or other utensil) and be very gentle. With recipes like, say, waffles, the batter should be lumpy and NOT mixed in.
